This only matters to people who have ideas and care about them. Most people do not live inside of their heads (the way I do). I only started appreciating this in my late twenties, and by then, Google, Facebook and the like had already sunk its claws into my generation.

I still have the street corner I can preach on. I don't need google. Someone locking me in a cage totally takes away my ability to communicate. That soubds far worse to me.

It's true they can have a negative impact on my life, but certainly there's a meaningful distinction between preventing communications and ideas from spreading, and physically caging or killing people? Not only in theory either. Who has done more harm historically?
