Great explanation of why the Fischer-Lynch-Patterson impossibility theorem & the "CAP theorem" in distributed computing don't apply to probabilistic systems (for example blockchains). I once more obscurely reported on this comp sci breakthrough here: https://nakamotoinstitute.org/advances-in-distributed-security/ …https://twitter.com/socrates1024/status/1147904958752276482 …

This is totally the best explanation. This reference from James Aspnes goes through FLP, this intuitive scenario, and the randomized solution directly http://www.cs.yale.edu/homes/aspnes/pinewiki/RandomizedConsensus.html …

Nakamoto consensus can be seen to fall within classical Byzantine agreement including CAP theorem & trade-off triangle. FLP only applies to asynchronous.https://github.com/zawy12/difficulty-algorithms/issues/42 …

POW has amazing partition resilience in terms of the CAP theorem and is even more astounding in lack of needed communication when viewed in terms of the trade-off triangle. To say they do not apply is to not understand how astounding POW is.

Intuitively, I think Satoshi Nakamoto did not "solve" the BGP, he bypassed it by creating an external unforgeable signal:https://etherplan.com/2019/05/18/proof-of-work-has-division-of-power-between-miners-and-full-nodes-proof-of-stake-does-not/7619/ …
