Ripple is a separate from xrp. They own a very large amount of xrp, yes. With that said, any company can have same about bitcoin.

You didn't answer my question, what is the purpose of $XRP I don't see any reason for it. The technology behind it is there, and can be used - but why do we need a publicly tradable token that fluctuates in value?

Xrp is to be used on XRappid ledger as a bridge between banks and large corporation to transfer large amounts of money within seconds. This illuminates Pre-found it accounts on receiving end.

So a bank will buy $1,000,000 worth of XRP then transfer it to someone where they will either hold or sell it and potentially lose a massive amount of money? Again, I don't see ANY point in $XRP - A stable coin is what banks need, not a wild speculated cryptocurrency.

@JoelKatz explains well. Essentially, fast settlement digital asset that bridges fiat/stablecoin currencies. Could use BTC to settle but takes to long, volatile, high fx risk & expensive. #XRP settles in 3 seconds, immaterial fx risk & fully accountable on XRPL. #XRPforgood
