Brazil is on the equator, sugar grows so cheaply there they make affordable ethanol out of it.

Interesting.Efficient economies will likely have the "best mix" of fossil(and efficient use of fossil)/renewable energy as well as controlled population growth and adequate water resources. Few countries will fit the bill. Ability to switch between energy sources important
