Also, this "code is law" principle was likely the only way to successfully bootstrap a currency without a pre-established state power placing it's weight behind the system. A system like this is much easier to trust than "random" humans with non-existent reputation.

I feel like corruption due to power scales better than reputation. Reputation can scale pretty good with a network effect.
