Socialist say look at Scandinavia. Great, where is the innovation? Stagnation always proceeds collapse.

Please read 'Factfulness,' written by a Swedish author Hans Rosling, explaining with data how Sweden has developed as a society. Child mortality, average age, health, per capita income, purchasing power, everything has improved. Is that a downfall?
-
The problem is stagnation isn't stable. Societies must grow or die. Outside of apps there doesn't seem to be much coming out of the region.
-
What about non-app, world leading companies in their industries like Maersk, Lego, Carlsberg, Telenor, IKEA, H&M and many more
-
Those are great. But I don't see zero to one events.

Great businesses but not innovative in the sense of bring something new into the world. Iphone. Google. Twitter. More like Starbucks, good company but not an innovation. I am twitter to learn. Being wrong isn't a problem

I’m not a socialist, but singling out Scandinavia as non-innovative is incorrect. Sweden has produced more billion VC-backed cos in the last decade than anywhere else in the world besides SV on a per capita basis
-
Agree that Sweden, heavily de-regulated, and if we are honest it's capitalist with large social nets. Even so they are producing companies that are just copies with tweaks. Innovation is something new that deeply impacts society. Iphone. Google. Twitter. Are you aware of any?

Spotify first to offer full catolog instead of unbundling album,Klarna built multi-$B biz & Affirm copied it in US,Oatly was first to alt milk trend. They punch above their weight Jan Stenbeck was one of the most innovative European founders of all time https://amp.theguardian.com/media/2002/aug/27/broadcasting6 …

I’m all for railing against socialism but I don’t think Scandinavia is place to single out.
-
Scandinavia is the example I hear most now. Ironically it doesn't appear to be socialist.
-
It’s an apples to oranges comparison anyway. Something that works in a country of 10m people will most likely play much differently in country of 330m

Sweden and Denmark alone have fostered companies like IKEA, Spotify, Novo, Maker Dao, Skype, Unity, Lego, Volvo, Maersk, zendesk...... Stockholm is currently the second largest breeding ground for Unicorns in the world! Combined with free education and healthcare
