They were born in Venezuela and lived under REAL socialism.
The government oppressed and harassed and murdered their loved ones.

Honestly, anyone who doesn't want to have social security, or medicare (socialized medicine) should refuse that money. It'd be great if we could refuse paying taxes too, but as the antivaxers have shown us, there's this herd immunity issue. Health is social.
It's not rational to refuse money, nor is it moral to refuse money if one or one's spouse has previously paid that money into the system.

Agreed. I'd honestly prefer pure voluntarism-mature people can take care of themselves. But what about people who choose to be irresponsible, and then cause problems for the rest of us? Should vaccinations be required? Seatbelts? No Smoking policies?

And then sometimes even mature responsible people get overwhelmed and need help. Also, what wealthy person wants to live in a country full of crime and poverty? As a wealthy person would I want to pay to improve my community? 1 sick person can spread disease to the rest of us.
