It's lost in the mists of time, and whichever came first, they (or language and the money-like thing I call "collectibles" to avoid dogmatic definition-mongerers) likely co-evolved for hundreds of thousands of years, perhaps for over a million.

money is language. however I would assume that primitives form of language appeared first, like "GO" "RUN" "HIDE" "WTF?" lol

I am not sure if language is money or if money is some sort of language. I view them as two social constructs that evolved side by side
