Being an American or not should not be important. Country borders should be a thing of the past. I know you're American but I'm surprised by your statement anyway. I thought you strive towards a borderless world, governed in a decentralized manner.

Government isn't BFT. People who live within walls are never the free ones.

A wall built to prevent people coming in is different to a wall built to prevent people leaving. US/Mexico wall would not be a Berlin Wall for Americans.

That's naive. American citizens already face strict, often humiliating searches when crossing the border. To the point some already won't leave. Show your papers. Cracking down on immigrants always leads to cracking down on citizens, too.
