Amy Curtis added,
He does make a valid point though -- red states have felt alienation and have thus rejected Democrats who have been bought out by lobbying interests and are no longer looking after the interests of the lower and middle class.
"No longer" as if they ever did?
I think if you look back in history, the Democrat party was an entirely different platform than it has become.
You have to go very very far back in history for that, like the slavery and Reconstruction eras, and that's not flattering to the Democrats either.
You have a fair point. But there was a time more recently where a significant base of blue-collar workers would have seen themselves mostly as Democrats. Many of those people no longer feel represented by them and have rejected the party, for good reason.
They saw themselves that way, but that doesn't mean the Democratic policies actually benefited them. Far from it. Now with social media they have had a chance to talk to each other unmediated by mass media, and so have figured or are in the process of figuring this out.
