2/2 Actors can actually get so lost in a character, they have to be "talked down". Normal people may think it's nuts/hard, but it's actually something you can train to do. Now take the previous and apply it to politicians, political constituencies, and intelligence agencies.

1/2 True. But it gets worse. The best actors actually convince themselves of "the truth of the work/character". Basically you brainwash yourself into MPD (sometimes they even use trauma to help the tranformation, check out Dustin Hoffman's preparation for Marathon Man).
