Investors who leave their cryptocurrency in the custody of an exchange are like people who invest in Starbucks even though they don't drink their coffee. They might make good technical money, but their actual understanding of use cases and value propositions is questionable.

One might prefer to keep coin in multiple locations and modes for various purposes and to prevent total loss. Some of those could be custodial. Let’s call them savers instead of investors or speculators. At least if they are using BTC. Anything else is speculation of course.
That's a matter of key management with some sharing of control. That's very different than the subject of this thread which is a centralized custodian that controls all the key(s) and the nominal owner not at all.

Yes. So you and I buy shares in companies but we don’t actually have custody. That’s a whole separate topic. We want keys to confer ownership. And they do in the sense they possession is 9/10ths. I’m with you. Don’t leave much or any on exchange.

I think the ability to keep coins without any single person having full custody is perhaps even more disruptive than for everyone to have the ability to hold their own.
