      Wrong. It originated as a protest against leftist Macron's carbon tax and organically incorporated earlier protests against mass migration, while far-left academic and mass media types keep trying to convince each other and us that it's actually their movement.

      Guys, there is no "this movements". It's just a few bits worth of a hashtag resp. color of a piece of cloth. It means nothing in and by itself. The protest is real, and different people fight for different issues. They are united by decentralisation and nothing else.

          Yap, from their demands it is obvious that they are people mostly related to Le Pen' party - nationalistic left, which seems combo from worst elements of the right and left, to be honest.
