"Traditional" finance has destroyed its traditions in favor of naive experiments in digital centralization. Payment vendors now ask questions ludicrously irrelevant to the function of sending payments. Every year their "money" degrades more into tools of political control.https://twitter.com/whiterosetees/status/1061434491292581888 …

As a Merchant, I get irritated by these questions. But PSPs make money only if I go ahead with the payment. If they still risk irritating me, I tend to believe they must be having a good reason to do so by asking these questions.

Not true at all. I'm not a fan of PayPal. https://sketharaman.com/blog/2011/04/29/is-it-adios-to-paypal-from-india/ …. But, 7 years after I wrote that post, I've still not been to find an alternative to PayPal or bank wire transfer for cross-border B2B payments b/w USA & India. If you can suggest one, I'll switch in a minute.

(1/2) As I said, even I don't like those questions. I once got so p****d off with these PSP overlords that I actually took a cheque for a USA-India crossborder payment! https://sketharaman.com/blog/2011/03/26/why-b2b-suppliers-should-accept-credit-cards/ ….
