That's why gold has been money for 5,000 years. You hold it, you don't have to trust anybody. Re: crypto, one must trust the code (which is, nevertheless, man-created). It also needs to be widely accepted (by humans) which requires faith too.
Trust-minimized rules are new & in many ways will be vastly superior to what trusted but often not so trustworthy kings, judges, legislatures or regulators have concocted. The value of gold comes from the laws of physics (there is a finite amount on earth. No gold can be physically created, etc.). The value of crypto comes from mathematics (the laws behind de code that define the availability of the crypto).

And when they can mine comets, I'll be out of luck. There's a certain spiritualism in this crypto-currency. Math is the "language of the universe" a/k/a God's infallible word. "In God we Trust" - until we don't.

Don't worry, we'll never mine comets... not for gold at least ;) And the difference between Maths and god is that Maths were created to understand the universe and god was invented as an excuse.

A need to really trust somebody in economic interactions is something that should be minimized due to the current level of the technological advance. Human factor was always a problem to most of the spheres and now we finally have the tools to decrease its influence.
