You'll notice that they're travelling together, not individually hiring coyotes to take them. It makes a huge difference, even for the people who aren't fleeing violence.

In some ways it makes the problem more difficult, and calls for more sophisticated solutions than those of the coyotes. For example a much greater density of food and water, much more intensive use of toilet facilities, and they leave behind a huge stream of garbage.

It didn't cost me anything close to $7K to move two people and a carload of stuff from New Jersey to SF, which is about the same distance as Guatemala. Of course, I didn't have to bribe border guards.

And it didn't cost the Germans nearly as much to get from the Ardennes to Abbeville using motorized vehicles and jerry cans in WWII as it cost them to get half that distance on foot in WWI.
