Oh, I'm absolutely a big fan of "sometimes X, sometimes Y" (sometimes). I'm just questioning the wisdom of your chosen *ratios* of emphasis.

Suppose model: N tweets about a topic gives log(N) value to those it concerns. If topic concerns M people, your Nth tweet about it has marginal value M * (1/N). Optimal tweeting implies equal marginal value between all topics, so for any topic you want M ~ N.

So the question is: what are the ratios of your audiences that need to hear about specific topics? That should equal the ratio of emphasis. In general, I find people concerned with US culture war overestimate its universality.

Is the overarching assumption here that any influential figure within a certain category of subjects has some kind of obligation to use Twitter in a manner that optimizes marginal value per tweet in his audience's eyes? What about the marginal value per tweet in his own eyes?

Oh I never said "in the audience's eyes"; I said "need to hear". The speaker should absolutely act on their own opinions about what people need to hear.
