Yep, plus actually I live there. The majority of this is pre-election posturing, coupled with farm attacks that are largely due to the MASSIVE wealth disparity between farmers and farm workers. I’ve often done volunteer work out in rural areas, never saw a glimmer of hatred.

That doesn’t change the fact that the head of state is on video encouraging violence.

Which head of state? Cyril Ramaphosa, the president of the ANC and of the country? His son threw a Bitcoin conference over the weekend, and is a friend of mine, so I’m going to go out on a limb and say that’s nonsense.

There is some video of an ANC politician singing a revolutionary song with lyrics like “kill the boers” or something making the rounds.

It’s a struggle chant from the early 90s, in the midst of Apartheid, and there is a court case going on to decide if the song has enough historical relevance such that it cannot be deemed hate speech. This is surely not too dissimilar to “slave songs” in the USA?

I went to SA in 2000, and was impressed how normal race relations were considering apartheid had ended less than 10yrs prior.

And this was at a time when Jo’burg was pretty messed up though (murder capital of the world at the time iirc). Literally everyone warned us away, said if we didn’t have friends or family there, there was no reason to go.
