And there is a bigger issue than privacy, SECURITY!. Every terrorist, naxal and illegal now has an Aadhar card. It may even be yours or mine. Some poor starving shmuck will have to sell his house running from lawyer to pillar to post to prove he is who he is and not some naxal.

No. The identity biz is like micropayments, a bunch of lemmings year after year pursuing the same failed projects and unachievable goals of the prior ones, never learning from the failures, never pursuing the alternative Bitcoin did of not requiring identity in the first place.

First-come first-serve names have a ton of problems (as we are seeing with http://bitcoin.com  etc.), making them insecure for many purposes, but they can be sufficient for social networks, and secured by blockchain title (something more lightweight might also be sufficient)

Maybe. But what I just described is a pseudonym, subject to Sybil attacks, it's way overselling it to call it an "identity".

DIDs are not subject to this issue, as they are not intended to be friendly identifiers that are visually/inherently associated with any meat space person, org, entity, or noun: https://w3c-ccg.github.io/did-spec/

Based on non-trivial social relationships, and thus having poor social scalability.

Hence the need to not roll it out willy-nilly using questionable players and un-audited techniques and coerce the entire population into accepting it by Mandatorily cross-linking it to all social and FINANCIAL services, while constantly moving both the premise and goal-posts.

That's the propeganda that's been peddled by the 5 eyes to destroy privacy for a long time. Identity only needs to be verifiable not intrude privacy. Bitcoin does that very well already

Identity and 'people' governance have similar drawbacks. I will pose a solution later, but in effect: Pay People to Self Identify, as a small collective (A Junto) Pay for an annual, week long retreat (meeting) Pay the Groups to politic, and consolidate (nested councils)...

Identity Econ & Politics falls short by identifying everyone. Only identifying influencers matter. Another weakness is lack of sacrifice for gain. Combine Voluntary Participation + Gamble + Nesting, and you have a (relatively) simple global system, with localization plus scale.

Verifiable voluntary identity is very easy to implement and scale imho. problem is the entities envisioning such grand schemes r usually using 'em as fig-leaf cover for surveillance and/or wealth expropriation schemes n so all the exclusion n security problems explosively emerge.

And, so, for the majority of aadhar card holders, identity is potentially more appropriable now.
