It's "HODL" and it's the most important acronym in the bitcoin vernacular. We explore the concept in "Bitcoin: Boom or Bust," premiering Monday, August 27 at 6 p.m. EST on CNBC. #BitcoinBoomOrBust #CNBCCrypto https://cnb.cx/2wosUjE pic.twitter.com/rV1N2kLCzy

Community: a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals. I dont know what you call it but the group of entrepreneuers, engineers and blockchain enthusiasts we interact with in daily basis sure fits the definition.
-
You're only interacting with a small subset.
-
I remember you and I talking about this at dinner a while back in LV,
@NickSzabo4 , and you were very clear in our conversation that#crypto is not just for Americans, and it is meant to be global and for everyone/anyone. I always remember how strongly you made that point. -
Of course. That very scale it what makes it utterly ridiculous to use "the community" to describe this extremely large and extremely diverse group of largely mutual strangers. Hector's buddies and my buddies and anybody else's buddies are a miniscule subset.

who's enforcing all of this "social consensus" then?
-
There's no such thing as that either, on large social scales.

What is your preferred language for what many refer to as "the community", or the variations of the meaning you see used for "the community",
@NickSzabo4? -
the "group of X" or "X universe" or the specific subset one has in mind "X users", "X developers", "X traders", etc.
-
How about "community cluster around X"?
-
Too much of a mouthful, you'll never get a high time preference hypester to say it, but definitely more accurate.
-
"high time preference hypester" high time preference must be one of the most destructive parts of a personality
-
I read a couple books on media bias / manipulation & seem to remember a lot of talk about community — I’ll have to figure out what book it was It’s Not News it’s Fark maybe... but it’s definitely a meaningless term that’s easy to manipulate people around
-
i think the Malthusian theory of population growth vs agricultural supply applies relative to the brain it is remarkable that in the last 3 million years our brain's capacity to manage relationships has grown 3x, but general population growth has been ~7500x at least
-
seems that presents a security hole for individuals who confuse "community" for just groups of unrelated and untrusting individuals attackers are charismatic fakes who don't give a shit about "community" but use it as leverage against the non-skepticals

Sounds right. This reminds me of similar quote from Margaret Thatcher.pic.twitter.com/F8KrYZnIEZ
