I suspect AT&T (and others) don't do that because it'd be bad marketing to say "Hey! You're phone #'s aren't secure!" Petzl seems to have gotten over that problem, and is quite happy to warn you how you can kill yourself with their products.

Absolutely true. The only worse security assessments I’ve done have been for government agencies. Cell phone companies (read government sponsored cartels) are unbelievable. But — my prediction. Public outrage. Regulation. Increased cost. Decreased security and UX. SoX again

It's only about cryptocurrencies. It can harm people for a lot of services. Yes for bank account payments can be reversed but it doesn't mean nobody is loosing in the process
