That’s true. But there has to be a limit for how much liability they can have when things go wrong. I think it should be around what it costs to subscribe to their services for a month. Maybe a year. 5 years? Definitely not a million years though

No there should not be any limit on liability ever. What should be the case is them having proper process and require physical person + ID to be shown before a SIM transfer can commence. This isn't rocket surgery.

Infinite liability for relationships they didn't set up and have no knowledge of? You might as we just pass a law straightforwardly banning phone companies.

Their process, according to themselves, is that you have to show up in person with an ID. Then they don't honor that. As a customer, I should have a reasonable expectation that they follow the process they set forth.

You should have a reasonable expectation that no one can port your number to pull a prank on your neighbors. If someone does, you should expect an apology and a box of chocolates. But that’s it

Why don’t we have this issue with email? Can you imagine if someone could get access to your Gmail with a sob story to Google? Email is just to email cat pictures. I don’t know what the liability should be, but bad practices should be stopped.

If you want to gain access to someone’s Gmail account, just port their phone number and tell Google you forgot your password. I know this, you know this, and Google knows this. So who’s fault is it for doing it anyway?
