Except bitcoin became economically centralized far faster than the US, so I’m not sure that it has as much to teach us as one might hope. It seems that whenever one thing becomes decentralized, people find a new axis of centralization and power. In this case, literally power.

Would you please elaborate? What would be the central power in Bitcoin today?

I did read that. I am not sure that means is centralised. I do not even think that is a problem and for sure is not worst than what we have now. I'd like opinions from people like @giacomozucco @Beautyon_ @Excellion

It is not true that Bitcoin is "economically centralized"; that is not even a real term. Anyone can buy BTC right now and use; it is irrelevant that some people have more Bitcoin than others; that's like saying the internet is "unfair" because Google has large data centers.

P.S. Most of those addresses reflect small-b bitcoin, i.e. Bitcoin held in trust by exchanges instead of directly. "Street name" registries of stocks are even more "centralized", with one registered "owner" standing in for thousands who "own" their stock via a brokerage.

I totally agree that our current financial markets are also centralized. I just have found it remarkable how quickly Bitcoin came to resemble them in the structure of economic Haves and Have Nots.

Anyone hoping for equality of outcome is not being realistic in any way shape or form. Pareto distributions are natural and should be expected. If significant wealth is weighted in the hands of intelligent, freedom loving individuals then all the good that can be done has been.

To me, "economically centralized" means that a small number of people control the majority of the value capture. Just because anyone can bet on the price of Bitcoin doesn't mean that they have the same kind of economic power as the now-centralized miners.
