How many members do you estimate the Bitcoin community has?
-
-
And you’ve always felt it can succeed with that loose an ethos? I have no opinion just curious
-
For users, yes. The devs have to indeed be something closer to a community with shared values, one of them being never upgrade the software for reasons other than technologically important ones (e.g. accounting, legal, or political decisions where the experts are not the devs).
-
I'm really curious why you would say that, or how I may have misunderstood that phrase. Isn't it generally a good idea to follow the maintainer's upgrades, at least for security & performance (provided there is no evidence that they tend to screw up your data in the process)?pic.twitter.com/o5i84IPIEb

"...for reasons other than technologically important ones"
-
The way the words are used here suggests that no software upgrades should ever happen except in extreme cases, mandated by knowledgeable people. That's backwards.

My experience makes me disagree with this. Especially in Latin America, bitcoin is a community (or at least, it's *many* communities).
-
Indeed many communities, not "the" Bitcoin community.
-
Bitcoin is the common denominator of multiple communities, nice way to look at it. I cannot formally describe the community I personally think I belong to, but in my mind it's full of bitcoiners that I call my friends and we hang around in the same internet spaces and meet IRL.

hey you!, yes... YOU! We need you in http://bitcoinhackers.org Playing 'hard to get' like the little BCH that you are. Come over! Plenty of carnivory over there (I myself just had a steak for breakfast...)pic.twitter.com/WY5dyjndE6

The word community gives me shivers. Reminds me of communism as well as its herds and principles in practice. Most “crypto communities” do resemble Soviet satellite communes. Thankfully the important strangers in Bitcoin are not like that now. Hopefully L2/L3 doesn’t change that.

Nations who refuse to switch their currency to the more stable dollar frequently do so out of national pride. The currency we spend days a lot about us. I believe that in a borderless world we will need to re-imagine community. Old definitions:https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/community …
-
Re-imagine nationality as well which essentially means put less attention of it (if we want a truly borderless world). Hard to do, especially if cultural ingredients/religions are involved.

Very true. I miss interacting with users on daily basis. At one point though (until early 2017) im very confident I had my finger on the pulse and many local bitcoiners had started to understand and recognize their own intuitions in twitter influencers https://segwit.org/why-segragated-witness-will-make-2017-bitcoins-best-year-yet-527e391c93cb …pic.twitter.com/gQaDdr7fd0
