Hey Nick I'm hearing that you can use any email you want and that they can turn off bots. Moderation is local level.
If I use a throw-away email it's a PITA for me and useless for account recovery. Just turn it off -- it's going to discourage other new users and ruin the network effect, making it pointless for me to join in the first place.

As an aside, I upgraded to a paid email service some time ago (Fastmail) which allows multiple aliases (anything@anyalias.fastmail.com) and domain options -- great for 'throw-away' addresses.
