Same legal system is what mainly enforces your property & contract rights as a landlord in the first place. But you have to help them by objecting in a timely manner when people violate them, else (after a long period of such non-objection) you lose that particular part of right.

A more populist example: Khosla (founder of Sun Micro) sued to stop surfers from walking on his property to get to the beach. The beach is public property, and people had been using his land as an access path for decades -- the previous owner allowed it.

no (Khosla actually hired armed guards to keep ppl away). After the courts ruled against him, the San Mateo PD had to follow the orders of the court, which included protecting the rights of trespassers.
