Krugman keeps repeating this popular claim. So help me out, kids: Did Weimar Germany, Zimbabwe, or Venezuela abolish their tax systems? How then did their currencies collapse, despite this "tether" and all those men with guns?pic.twitter.com/iiZZWwjVP3

It shines a very bad light on the economics press that so many of them take clown Krugman so seriously. Skips right past the most blatant history to obsess over speculative nonsense.

Krugman was wrong on pretty much every economic/financial statement he ever made. Time to build in flexibility to rescind Nobel prizes? It’d help with accountability, spam/hype filtering and institutionalized partisanship.

The whole idea of having a Nobel Prize for economics, as if it is in the same category of studies as physics, chemistry, and biology, is a big part of the cargo-cult science nature of most modern economics, especially macroeconomics. ht Feynman.

Feynman was vicious against psychologists & philosophers. I can't recall him saying any bad about government or economics.

He may not have been familiar with macroecon; also at that time it would have been tilting at windmills.

It's true he would not comment on complex things he did not understand. Isn't most of your work about economics (money) & governing controls (smart contracts & BTC software)? I don't understand your anti-government & anti-economics positions.

My work is very consistent with observing that governments are often a big negative in moral peoples' lives and being skeptical about economic speculations (for example, smart contracts was inspired more by law than by econ, and one purpose to providing an alternative to courts).

Ultimately the teeth of a smart contract (cyber law) has to be in the physical world where the ultimate governing control is based on power over physical world, not a consensus vote alone, especially a moral one.

contract = txn = law. One contract might be between (& constrain) a subset of or all other contracts such as "all contracts must be honest". We change the name from contract to law. The protocol enabling & enforcing this can be decentralized. Wealth remains an "attractor".

The purpose of law is to guide economics towards a more powerful system that can take control of other systems. Evolution supersedes morals. If fairness exists it is only a side effect of the evolution towards power. Hence China's capitalism is beating morality-based democracies.

Are not the most desperately poor democracies in the world correlated with a very high capitalistic ethos at the individual level and the least government at the macro level? Witness many countries in Africa & Latin America.
