If they really think about it it’s all tit for tat. It makes sense to take care of your country First imo.

No it doesn’t. You will need other countries’ help at some point (ie now) and working together helps everyone. Looking after yourself leaves you the wrong sort of isolated.

Crazy, but begs the question of why US customers get their resps from China, and Latin American and Canadian customers get their resps from US. NAFTA enables the latter?

Maybe because US standards permit Chinese respirators and Mexico/Canada want ones made in the US?
