Just had one of the most immersive situations in a video game ever, and it was totally unscripted, in Red Dead Redemption 2' Returning to Strawberry after a story mission where you wreck the place, I accidentally bumped into a lawman outside a shop. Despite my best efforts -

After hunting in the surrounding area, I managed to kill and skin a Grizzly Bear, I realised I was being searched for by bounty hunters. Rather than follow the road, I rode further north into the forest when I came across a gorgeous open plain full of deer. -

I spotted a creepy looking building in the woods surrounding this plain, and quickly found myself being attacked by dogs, and shot at by a trigger happy old lady. After dispatching of all threats, I learned the old woman was a hermit, who'd left her old life behind. -

I ransacked the shack, and after eating the deer I'd hunted that day I slept in the building. Starting the next day I hunted and gathered resources, cooking the meat I had to prevent it from rotting, and set about planning my return to camp in The Heartlands. -

I retraced my steps back to the old hunters cabin, which now was occupied, and followed the road ahead to a town I saw on my map. Luckily I realised the town was full of bandits before I entered, and I took a left turn into the snowy mountains of the first chapter -

I made camp next to a frozen lake, and unfortunately realised I had nothing left to feed my horse. The morning after I set off for Valentine, with the intention of selling all the food and skin I'd gathered. On the way I found another abandoned building, truly abandoned.

I kicked down the door, barricaded from the inside, and found two dead bodies decomposing, and a note from their mother saying "she'll be back soon. Look after yourselves". Weird shit. I took everything that wasn't nailed down, and continued my journey to Valentine.

It wasn't long before I came across another grizzly bear. This was far more challenging but ultimately I survived, and took the pelt with me. I arrived in Valentine, battered, bruised, covered in blood. And sold the stuff I'd hunted for $30ish.

I still have to earn an extra $70ish to pay off the bounty, but god damn was that a ride and a half.
