You don't get to proclaim what is and isn't racist. And yes, this is. Not because he parodied her outburst. It's the imagery used, purposefully reflecting the Sambo and the Mammy, racist caricatures of black people. This isn't something he randomly stumbled upon. It's obvious.

I'm not sure what you're saying, here.

No one is upset that he portrayed her as upset or angry. That's a regular political cartoon. The point being made is that the image he drew looks exactly like the Mammy figure.

You do know that “I was mistakenly racist” is not a defense? In our day and age when access to information is so viable that’s not a thing. You do get that right? He might not be racist but what he created was racist. Period.

Hi Nick, big fan but you're way off here. The depiction of Serena IS racist. Let that simmer for a while. There are ways to criticize behavior without that sort of visual representation. Knight has form in this regard. Not OK.
-
It's a specific art style that exaggerates the features of a person. His exaggerations of her features weren't the criticism. It's her acting like a baby, hence why there is a pacifier on the ground. Caricature drawings aren't inherently racist unless given the context to be so.
-
Hi. Yes. Here's some of that "context" https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Crow_laws?wprov=sfla1 …
-
Yep, I don't see this drawing from knight associated with that. Thanks for enforcing my point.
-
Uhhhh. Okay.

Exaggerated racist stereotypes in a cartoon about a female, African American athlete are necessary for the health of Australian democracy. Right, OK.

-
Well, apparently Knight and McCallum find a world class black tennis player threatening and "powerful," that needs to be taken down a peg, or 20, by minimizing her humanness and equality.

You’re probably right Nick. I’m just a bit disappointed Mark didn’t show Williams eating some watermelon and using a fried chicken bone for her racket and then he would have a very well deserved, Racist Bingo.
-
you forgot the racket could have been a banjo so she could have strummed "do da" at the same time to get a full house of fuckwittery

Why the outcry when Margaret Court gets criticised? You’re off the mark, Nick - conservatism and double standards really showing through. Best cartoonist??
-
Umm, it’s not the slightest bit funny. You’re obviously hard up for a laugh. I suppose you thought Bill Leak was funny too.
