  4. Yes, there's hope. We can solve America's problems. We know how. We just lack the political will -- and that will come only when we face the severity of our challenges. Thanks for reading "Tightrope"!

Glad that it seems to likely have ended well. But I HATE when people claim "this is not who we are" when a incident clearly shows that this is precisely who you are. What they likely meant to say is "this is not who I want others to think we are".

the lesson from this whole thing: China has learnt nothing from 2003, will put ideological obsessions and nationalism in the way of international cooperation and helping its people, and the lying - the constant, constant lying - will continue unabated.

MUST READ When I hear companies say "this is not who we are" in response to errors/omissions/firings/plane-crashes/negative-press I wish I could scream in their face: IT IS EXACTLY WHO YOU ARE! Otherwise, you wouldn't be facing the questions. Excellent framing!

  21. Excellent piece by @chubailing and about how China's doctors and scientists handled the coronavirus responsibly, while its political leaders covered up the problems: When will China's autocrats catch up to its scholars?
