    Heck of a story to wake up to - Sha’Carri Richardson tests positive for marijuana. May just be a one month ban but she’d still miss the Olympics. Many will have sympathy given her mum died during US trials but surely she knew it was on the banned list? Kudos to .

    American sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson looks set to miss the Olympic Games as her US Olympic Trials performance was disqualified because she tested positive for a banned substance. News of the infringement arrives four weeks before the start of the Olympics in Tokyo event.

    Excellent point here about how badly failed in probing weightlifting doping cover-ups. Violations involving Azerbaijan/Turkey etc should have been easily identified and proven by documents available to WADA at the time. Instead, they ignored or accepted nonsense excuses

    1/2 Note how IOC, Japanese organizer are silent about critical comments this week from Emperor Naruhito on the risks of holding Olympics. Note. One, he almost never speaks on issues like this. Two, he did NOT have to say a word, but he did. Embarrassment for IOC head Thomas Bach.

    This is extraordinary. Romanian weightlifter Roxana Cocos was intentionally allowed to compete at London 2012 despite senior IWF officials knowing she was provisionally suspended for TWO doping offences. She won a silver medal. Full ITA report here:

    Crucial to remaining an sport will be how acts on the charges against officials. Can Nicu Vlad remain IWF Vice president, Hasan Akkus boss of European weightlifting? If so - then they thoroughly deserve to be kicked out of the Games. 🔽

    Does not say much about 's desire to genuinely reform. also didn't help, publishing here how one of the other European candidates had been suspended as athlete for doping but neglecting to say anything about Hasan Akkus, thus making him seem a safer choice

    Hasan Akkus, newly elected boss of European Weightlifting Federation, also facing four year ban for falsifying doping cases to avoid a likely ban and fine for Turkish Federation in 2012. These exact allegations were published by ARD in April 2020 and he was elected regardless.

    Russian sprint hurdler Sergey Shubenkov found innocent of any doping charges.

    Following charges laid by the AIU, Disciplinary Tribunal finds Sergey Shubenkov (RUS) bore no fault or negligence for an Anti-Doping Rule Violation for presence of a prohibited substance (acetazolamide – a diuretic) in his sample. No sanction imposed.
