As I’ve said before, I don’t know what “business as usual” is anymore. Is it global climate policy being held hostage by a handful of petrostates and the Murdoch media empire?

Sad to see the UK investing in yet another stranded fossil energy 'asset' so soon after ending fracking. Coal for steelmaking - that new mine in West Cumbria - is marked for oblivion as technology leader Sweden shifts to renewable steel. Why do we make such bad policy decisions?

erm - I think they should read the small print. One condition of having the money is that the signs stay up! If they are taken down - then that could cost the silly fools that are doing it an 'eck of a lot of money!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Boris Johnson is having a cabinet meeting in Sunderland today as part of his Brexit Day celebrations. Meanwhile, the North East of England are taking down their EU funding signs that showcase over £1 billion in EU regional development funding for the North East since 2007.

Incredible bravery from this young lad, but what a shameful reflection on our government’s inaction on the that he feels the need to do this.

We can argue over the possibility of 1.5°C but what seems clear now is that we will at least overshoot that. This will have appalling impacts over the next few decades, shaking our global system of trade and wealth to the core. We're out of time and must act extremely fast.

„Climate impacts do not scale in a straight line. The impacts of 2° are not just twice as bad as 1°, they are many times worse. In my view, not meeting the Paris targets would mean a world, tough even for humans to live in.“ — Professor Will Steffen Source:

Fire weather worsening: more heat, less rainfall I was invited to write an oped for TA on bush fires and climate change. I was surprised. Here it is. Hope it's the beginning of a more honest discussion on climate change.

Pay attention to Africa - it's where the greatest number of people so far - probably more than 50 million, the population of a middle sized European country - are being harmed by global heating.

The average temperature in Stockholm in January was 7°C warmer than normal. Parts of central Sweden had an average of over 10°C warmer than normal. Yet, this is barely even mentioned in the media... (Source: SMHI)

Last night at the hotel bar I hung out with a couple of oil and gas guys. "Horizontal drilling"; shale is what brought them to Boulder. They asked me what I do. "Energy", I said. "Clean energy?" (Ooh, that's loaded) "Yeah, more like the future of energy." /1
