I had nonwhite coaches/mentors as early as 8-years-old and through high school, but, my 1st nonwhite educator was my sophomore year of college: Professor Woolford.

It is so important that nonwhite children have teachers that look like them, and it is equally as important that white children have teachers who do not look like them.

Shhh... You're making too much sense! I still remember my white & black teachers & how much of an impact they made in my life. So much so, I think of my WHITE teacher when I write cursive, my WHITE teacher when I say "often" ("It's 'of-en'. The 't' is silent), & my BLACK

Unfortunately, this philosophy (rooted in positional theory/ critical race theory) is widely believed and taught in higher ed and has been emphasized in teacher education (under the banner of advancing social justice) often more than solidifying pedagogical skills & content.
