It was most likely a version of Content ID for restrict/banned content. It's feed the content and told to take it down if it is reuploaded. So when Ethan started playing a banned video, the system recognized it and...took it down. The system cant tell it was editorial content.

In that case, YouTube would have to manual review hundreds of detected videos, (difficult). The system could simply flagged it since he is a high profile creator for manual review. But as YouTube has admitted in the past, the system isnt perfect and they are constantly improving

we the creators shouldn't have to deal with that. until their system works, which it never will 100% let's be honest, they need to hire more people to manually check these cases, especially when a community strike is being given out
