I personally don’t think this problem is fixable. Cross faction gameplay seems like the opt solution in my eyes but I’d love to be wrong on this.

Cross faction gameplay is the best solution imo, and long overdue. This would have been the perfect expansion for it too, coming off the story beats of BfA.

true, at the same time "horde vs alliance" seems to be a pillar for Warcraft, one that is feared to be took down. Think about the changes on the old content that the faction merge would imply... difficult

yes but all old content is basically done with chromies now once you get out of your starting zone. So your character time travels to quest through MoP for example, where the Faction war still existed. Would make sense to have cross faction play

Then it will be problematic in two ways: first, it would mean that friends in different factions would not be allowed to level together for all but endgame content; second, possibly, racial balance would be broken. But on the story level too, merging factions would break so much.

Imo playing M+ and Raiding together as Alliance and Horde is the most important thing so I don't see it as a problem that it would only work on endgame content. But yes merging factions might be a problem since it is a core wow element, but tbh factions died with Varian

Nobody is talking about merging factions. Keep separate capitals, heroes, races, quests, and storylines - just allow for the idea that player heroes set aside their differences to work together to take down common foes... Which is basically every expansion storyline anyway.

yes, I just want to have a mode like warmode where I can play on my nightelf druid with my horde guild friends :) that's all I want from Blizz

That sounds more like a doable idea. The issue here is communication I guess, suddently your character is supposed to understand the enemies languages? It is a problematic topic because game history (faction pride), game systems (separation of factions), and lore do clash

Personally, from a gameplay standpoint I would prefer no factions at all. No issues with faction balance, a bigger playerpool for whatever (any queues in the game would profit), play with friends in other factions

I really would love to be in a blizzard internal meeting about this topic. I am sure there were some very interesting discussions!

I have the bad feeling that not only Ion, Steve and other people in charge of the game but especially Activision wants to keep the cash cow running the way it is. Too much (long overdue) changes and renovations might be too big of a risk.
