Blizzard has tell us they won't made essences account wide. But, some weeks after the end of the progress for the major guilds they announce to release the feature! Tadam. It's almost explicit.
That is just the same information^^ i wonder more like "what is explicitly so important about accwide essences in the worldrace context, why would blizz wait until the race was over, and why would the 'lie on purpose' about that?"

To have more characters ready without to plays hours and hours... Imagine to have more specialization ready without to do the pain of farming essences from scratch. Maybe I'm wrong about the explicit.

mh, then i guess accwide essences would have helped people who have 5 times the same class to push RNG chances and improve their luck towards the overall progress, and that would have been "unfair" to people who did not have that many alts ready for the world race
