I've always liked the factions. I like the aesthetic differences between the two. I'm sure from a story point of view from Blizzard, it must get annoying having to create some kind of conflict each expansion but I wouldn't want to join forces with Horde scum.
Change my Mind: The best thing gameplay-wise (and lore-wise at this moment!) would be if Horde and Alliance are removed as factions, and players can play with any other race/allied race/sub-race, making "factions" are more personal decision than based on their race.pic.twitter.com/xTCr78IVZ3

I get your point^^ it has been a main driver for the whole warcraft history, but as you said: in the meantime it seems like the story is constructed around that restriction of having 2 factions. At the same time the story has been bent so much that it makes no sense anymore

Nah. I think it would be better to create something like cross-faction guilds where you can do PvE stuff, understand each other and be friendly to each other in the world. You know... like Argent Crusade had orcs and humans in one camp)

I would love this. I play both sides I am a neutral forever and always. Although I like how pretty everything is on Alliance side, I love castles and the cities.

I think they could still exist, but in such a weak political state that allowed players to interact with members of the other faction. One could still hate Orgrimmar but be cool with the Taurens, for instance.
