I haven't read all comments, but the whole "issue" comes from the claim of some people, that artists are racist if they use lighter colors (on purpose or not) than the original character for the skin of dark-skinned characters.

some people take the "social justice" to far imho, if changing the skin color/race/gender/sexiness of a character in your fanart is generally ok, then it should be valid though the board, and not be considered racist if the change is from black to white.

It's a difficult topic, isn't it. I have no problem with Lin-Manuel Miranda playing Alexander Hamilton, but would cringe if Meryl Streep was cast to play Rosa Parks. It shouldn't make a difference and intellectually and logically it doesn't. But it just 'feels' wrong.
