There are 2 dimensions of meta. Ante/post: staged evaluation at compile time. Hypo/hyper: underlying concrete runtime vs abstract language.
Ironically, meta etymologically means "after", but its familiar meaning in a staged evaluation is *before*, an ante-computation. @Ngnghm

Hmm. I never think of meta as before or after. I think of it as atop or beneath.

The 2nd dimension of meta is atop or beneath with meta *beneath*: lower level of abstraction. hypo- vs hyper- objects.
