DEFVAR is dynamic scoping (the Haskell "reader monad" or Scheme "parameters"), not dynamic extent (the reason for the upwards funarg problem). What is boneheaded in CL is making all toplevel variables dynamically scoped, not dynamic scope as such. What's wrong with Prototype OO?
