Something I explained to my 11 yo: When something has a really vague name, it's often because people don't want to call it by what it is.

In value neutral context, bad names are given before phenomena are well-understood, then stick. In value-laden context, competition to associate with positive value and dissociate from negative value cause rapid semantic drift. No one gets to refactor the language for clarity.
