I know precious little about Swift, except that some people I respect work on it. Does it meaningfully run outside of Apple-land? What makes it not just a better blub? Its "protocols" allow dynamic extension a la CLOS. Are its types sound? Does it have type-driven deriving?

Yes, runs on Linux. Probably almost as better Blub as Scala is. Protocols allow dynamic extension (I think). Yes, types are sound. Not sure about deriving (probably if not now then very soon).
