Trying to cross-install Ubuntu on an encrypted partition from another machine in a chroot, I found I had to swapoff -a, or update-initramfs would fail trying to find a line in /etc/crypttab for the swap partition on the cross-install host. Knowledge I wish I could forget…
I never managed to get the Ubuntu kernel and initramfs to properly recognize the chromebook hardware, so I "just" installed GalliumOS instead. And I never managed to get GalliumOS to install itself successfully without erasing the entire disk. Oh, well. Hours of life wasted.
