The key to remember is this: knowledge is a scam. Skills are a scam. You're as good a piano player as any concert pianist already without practice or study, as good a brain surgeon as anyone who went to medical school. Anyone telling you to learn things is conning you.

That's a strawman. Skills matter but that type theory is not by far the only skill that matters in growing a language, not even the one that matters most. E.g., to design a DSL, domain knowledge is much more important than type theory. Just reuse an existing typesystem if needed.
