Can anyone tell me in one tweet what's the point of urbit? I spent 10 minutes reading through their website but came out with no clue as to what problem they solve. Went on Quora but people don't have a clear idea either.https://twitter.com/urbit/status/1103825159633268736 …

IIUC Urbit aimed at users reclaiming ownership of their own computing devices, their "digital sovereignty", by making computations deterministic under user control, each user owning his servers and identity (and with a nice 2.5 out of 3 on zooko's triangle).

Perfect. I'm personally tired of vague promises in cryto implemention details explained. Team looks talented but their marketing seems really disconnected from anything you can relate to.

Urbit started with quite a contrarian market positioning which was almost anti-marketing. And yes they have a lot of crazy and/or dubious ideas, and may have eaten more than they can chew (e.g. with a universal VM). But at least a few of their ideas are both original & excellent.
