The improvements I made to ASDF are considered as reckless breaking changes by many Common Lispers, not wholly without reason. In my defense, ASDF had little documentation and *no standard*, I seldom broke *documented* features, and that's not where most backlash was.
I actually backed down several times from releasing or enabling changes that I proposed and implemented, but just the trying to push those changes gave me a bad reputation among some Common Lispers (and a good reputation among others).
