Aaron Hsu's APL workshop at @lambda_conf is mind blowing as usual. Composing combinators bottom-up into a trivially parallelized vectorized dataflow program. Folds and maps, but no recursion, no branch, hardly a variable. No comment, no code generation — direct machine access.

Aaron used to be a Schemer, but in a way, APL is the anti-Scheme. Scheme has you define DSLs and compilers for your DSLs, so that every program is far removed from the evaluation machine, and everyone uses a different effective language. In APL, you wire in a machine.
