The left hates Clinton more than you do, because she's a bribetaking warmongering sociopath who cheated Sanders to get the nomination, then lost to Trump after helping nominate him because she thought she could beat him. The only ones who like Clinton are centrists and cultists.

So I'm looking at the line of succession and not seeing how this can possibly be true. There is no mechanism for House Speaker to simply nominate a random person outside the chain and then step aside. Lawrence Lessig normally knows his shit but this theory of his is absurd

My apologies, after I clicked through far enough to see one of the steps requires "doing the right thing" I do see how this could work by bubbling Hillary up to Ryan's VP spot once he is in. Won't happen, but I stand corrected on its theoretical soundness :) Please forgive me!

If I understand correctly (and I hope and believe I do now), could not anyone whosoever (assuming they meet other constitutional requirements for the job) be made president by any Speaker who ascended to POTUS this exact same way for any reason whatsoever? Interesting and scary!

Technically it is the president who nominates but congress has to confirm and so yes - if qualified, anyone

My thanks for your explanations cannot be extended enough, I think I have a grasp of the mechanism now. I'm sorry Newsweek's (intentional?) misrepresentation of this has caused you so much grief from uninformed people (myself formerly included). Please keep up the great work!
