If Roger Goodell thinks that kneeling helped bring attention to an important and ongoing political crisis, why, then, have the N.F.L. owners insisted that it stop?  http://nyer.cm/9YatHsl pic.twitter.com/sVW7zTfH8A

So badly handled. We can't forget that - despite how silly the owners look - the President shouldn't have put us in this situation. Presidents are supposed to unify, not stoke culture wars.

Thanks @NFL for handling this soooo well. Responding to a mad man who now suggests that those who kneel should be removed from the country was an excellent move... I’ll find another sport to follow.

Racism, capitalism. I’d say those are probably the top reasons owners have banned kneeling.

The NFL is grasping at ticket sales and sponsor decline straws. As much as I agree that the players do have 2d Amendment rights, let's face it: on the football field, before, during and after the game, they are employees in a workplace.

A writer should grasp the key issue is the First Amendment. No one forfeits their civil rights in the workplace when exercising those rights doesn't affect their job performance. Choosing not to observe an optional expression doesn't make players better/worse on the field.

Because they are afraid of #TrumpCrimeSyndicate. I hope the players all walk. This is NOT AMERICAN.
